About Liesbeth

In 2023, I moved with my husband and kids from the Netherlands to Ericeira. I went through every step myself: NIF, NISS, CRUE, freelancer registration, health centre, school enrolment, the lot. With a background in law and the lived experience of navigating the system as a family, I help other expats avoid the stress I went through.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the whole process take?

The full process typically takes 2–4 months, depending on processing times at Portuguese authorities. Some steps (like the NIF) can be done in a week, while others (like the CRUE) require an appointment that may take longer to schedule.

What documents do I need?

At minimum: a valid passport or ID for each family member, proof of address in Portugal (rental contract), and proof of income or employment. I'll send you a complete personalised checklist after our first contact.

Can you help if we're already in Portugal?

Absolutely. Many families contact me after they've already arrived and realise how complex the bureaucracy is. I can pick up wherever you are in the process.

Is IVA (VAT) included in the price?

Yes, all prices shown include 23% Portuguese IVA. If you're invoiced through a company registered outside Portugal, 0% IVA may apply.

Are you a law firm?

No. Ponte Portugal is not a law firm and I do not provide legal representation. I offer practical guidance and hands-on support, and when legal help is needed I can connect you with the right professional.

How can I pay?

You can pay securely online via Stripe. If your situation is more custom, contact me first and we can agree the best next step.
